RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State head coach Steve Springthorpe has announced the 2011 Wolfpack women's soccer schedule. For a second-consecutive season the Pack's regular-season schedule features 10 opponents that appeared in the NCAA Championship last year.
All but two of those 10 clubs come from the ACC - with the two others being two-time reigning Big South champ High Point and Penn State from the Big 10.
Springthorpe's third year at NC State gets underway with a four-game home stand in the month of August. The season begins Friday, Aug. 19 against Virginia Commonwealth at 7 p.m., and a match Sunday, Aug. 21 versus Navy at 1 p.m.
The following weekend the Pack will host Old Dominion on Friday at 8 p.m., and then LSU on Monday at 5:30 p.m. Both games are one end of a doubleheader with the men's soccer team.
The non-conference season continues at the Pittsburgh Tournament on Friday, Sept. 2 and 4 in Pittsburgh, Pa. NC State will take on Penn State Friday and then either Colorado College or the host Panthers two-days later.
The Wolfpack will also host North Florida and Towson, and travel to High Point and Longwood during the non-league portion of its schedule.
NC State opens its league slate just down the road at North Carolina on Friday, Sept. 16.
The home ACC matches consist of Wake Forest (Sept. 22), Virginia (Oct. 13), Virginia Tech (Oct. 16), Clemson (Oct. 20) and Duke (Oct. 27).
Other road matches against league foes consist of Maryland (Sept. 25), Miami (Sept. 29), Florida State (Oct. 2) and Boston College (Oct. 23).
The ACC Championship takes place Nov. 2, 4 and 6 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.
