Wallace, N.C. - No. 23 NC State finished fifth at the River Landing Intercollegiate as Albin Choi placed runner-up at River Landing Country Club, a par 72, 6,898-yard layout.
The Wolfpack finished with a final team score of 5-under 859. The team recorded a second-straight 4-under 284 during Saturday's third and final round of the tournament.
Freshman sensation Albin Choi played masterfully on Saturday, tying for low round of the day with a 6-under 66 to finish at 13-under 203. That number ties for the second-lowest tournament total in school history, and is just one stroke off Justin Walter's school record of 202 at the Nelson Invitational set back in 2002-03.
Today also marked the third time this year he has posted 66 in what has become one of the great rookie seasons in college golf for 2010-11.
Choi, from Toronto, Canada, and winner Josh Brock from UNC Wilmington were the only two to break 70 during all three rounds. Brock edged Choi by two shots, finishing at 15-under 201.
Choi's three-round score was four shots better than the previous best 54-hole score of the season, set by Choi, Mitch Sutton and Brandon Detweiler.
Sutton, the reigning ACC Player of the Month, notched his seventh top 20 of the year by finishing tied for 19th at 1-over 217.
Junior Chad Day and senior Brandon Detweiler tied for 38th at 5-over 221. They entered the day tied and both wound up shooting 1-over 73's on Saturday.
Junior Mark McMillen finished tied for 41st at 6-over 222.
East Carolina rallied from six strokes down to win the intercollegiate at 23-under 841, three strokes ahead of Liberty, who held the 36 hole lead.
Junior Graham Baillargeon competed as an individual and tied for 59th at 10-over 226.
Next weekend NC State will host the Wolfpack Spring Open on April 16-17 at Lonnie Poole Golf Course. 18 holes will be played on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. Live scoring will be available through golfstat.com
