RALEIGH, N.C. – A nearly full complement of sprinters, jumpers and throwers will compete for the NC State men’s and women’s track teams this weekend at the Duke Invitational at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham.
The Wolfpack will begin competition at 1 p.m. in the meet, which will feature teams from throughout the ACC and the region. The first competition involving NC State athletes is the women’s triple jump with sophomores Jazueline Daniels and Karimah Shepherd.
The highlighted events for the first day of competition will be the women’s 1,500 meter run with sophomore Erika Alpeter, Emily Egelhoff-Whalen and Leah Vaughn and the men’s high jump with sophomore Kris Kornegay-Gober, freshman Christian Council and junior Kwame Boatwright.
Saturday’s action begins at 9 a.m. with the women’s discus, featuring junior Brittany Hampton. The Wolfpack will field a large contingent of jumpers and throwers in the field events, including four entries in both the women’s hammer throw and the men’s long jump.
In the 400-meter race, the women have seven runners entered, led by freshman Denae Ford, and foru men, led by sophomore Daniel Fretz.
Both the men and the women will compete in their respective 4X100 relay races, and for the first time this outdoor season, Kara McKenna and Erin Mercer for the women and Brian Himelright for the men will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase races.
