Kansas City, Kan. - Three juniors on the NC State women's soccer team have been named to the 2010 NSCAA Scholar All-South Region third team.
Goalkeeper Kim Kern, defender Paige Dugal and forward Tanya Cain were recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
"I'm excited that Paige, Tanya and Kim were recognized for their achievements in the classroom and the soccer field," said head coach Steve Springthorpe. "All three of them have been leaders on the field and off the field for our team. It's always a goal for us to have athletes in our program who strive to be successful in all areas of their lives."
Kern, from Raleigh, N.C., has a 3.42 grade point average as a sports management major at NC State. She started all 19 games in net for the Pack in 2010, posting a 1.40 goals-against-average with four shutouts.
Dugal, the native of Garner, N.C., owns a 3.48 GPA in human biology. She started every game last season as well, and contributed one goal and two assists.
Cain, who hails from Pinebluff, N.C., has a 3.87 GPA as an accounting major. She ranked third on the team with 12 points on four goals and a team-topping four assists.
"These three players are great role models and represent our program to the highest level," added Springthorpe. "I know they are honored to receive this recognition by the NSCAA."
The trio were also tabbed for the 2010 All-ACC Academic Team back in March. Additionally, Cain was voted on the Academic All-America All-District first team in November, while Kern earned a place on the All-District third team.
