COLUMBIA, S.C. - NC State (22-20) posted eight singles en route to a 4-2 victory over South Carolina (23-21) in a non-conference matchup in Columbia, S.C. this evening.

Kayla Cox picked up the win for the Pack, surrendering just one earned run on seven hits in the complete game effort.

The Wolfpack threatened to strike in the first inning when Bridget Desbois and Bethaney Wells reached to lead off the frame, and were moved into scoring position on a nicely placed sacrifice bunt by Caitlin Dent. The next two batters, though, were retired by South Carolina's starting pitcher Ashley Chastain, and the game remained scoreless.

NC State loaded the bases in the third inning after Alyssa Ishibashi and Toni Ann Williford notched back-to-back base hits and Alyssa Allbritten was hit by a pitch. Desbois then stepped to the plate and hit a sharp grounder to the infield which was thrown home to retire Ishibashi. The Gamecocks' attempt to turn an inning-ending double play failed, though, as Desbois reached on the ensuing error and Williford came around to score, giving the Pack a 1-0 lead.

The Gamecocks utilized three singles, a walk and a Pack defensive error to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.

An RBI-single by Desbois tied the score at 2-2 in the fifth inning.

Williford and Allbritten each notched RBI-singles in the sixth inning to put the Wolfpack up 4-2.

The Wolfpack travels to Blacksburg, Va. for a three-game series against the Virginia Tech Hokies this weekend. Action begins Friday, April 22 with a doubleheader at 5 and 7 p.m., and concludes Saturday at noon.
