CLEVELAND, OHIO - NC State freshman gymnast Stephanie Ouellette competes at the 2011 NCAA Gymnastics Championships at the Wolstein Center beginning Friday, April 15 and running through Sunday, April 17.
Ouellette qualified thanks to her sixth place all-around finish at the NCAA's Athens Regional on April 2 after scoring a 38.950 to become NC State's first freshman to advance out of a regional since Christi Newton in 1993.
The freshman's best routine of that afternoon came on floor, where a 9.825 gave her a share of 10th overall.
By qualifying for the NCAA Championships, Ouellette gives the Pack four consecutive years of individual qualifiers and represents the eighth all-time to pull the feat.
Ouellette's trip to Cleveland caps an illustrious debut season for the freshman from Columbia, Md. Her accolades this year include All-EAGL first team and EAGL All-Tournament second team mentions on floor and all-around.
She finished second on the team in podium finishes, tallying 16 on the year including four first place showings.
Her season-highs include a 9.725 on beam, and 9.8s on vault and bars, but her best chance at success on the national stage rests on the floor exercise. Ouellette posted a career-best 9.9 at UCLA, 9.85s on three separate occasions, and notched scores of 9.825 five times.
NC State's best ever finish in any event at the NCAA Championships came last season when Taylor Seaman became the first All-American in Wolfpack history after coming in seventh courtesy a 9.875 on bars.
