RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State volleyball competed in its third tournament of the 2011 spring season this weekend in Reynolds Coliseum. The squad played seven games against local teams, sweeping all seven games en route to a perfect record for the weekend.
"This spring, we've been working on a lot of individual things, and not focusing as much on the team game," says second year head coach Bryan Bunn. "So it was good to come out and win all of our games in the weekend and play well as a team."
The Wolfpack took on North Carolina Central and Gardner Webb in the morning, and following a brief break, picked up yet another sweep in the afternoon, this time against Elon.
Bunn lauds the Pack's improvement so far this spring, a few months removed from the best season NC State volleyball has had since 1999.
"This spring, we've been working a lot on blocking, and we saw lots of improvement in that area over the weekend," says Bunn. "Our footwork was a lot better with our defenders and our blockers, so I did notice that positive thing."
In the 2010 season, the Wolfpack notched 385 total blocks, 53 of which were solo efforts. Junior Margaret Salata paced the Pack in this area, scoring 104 total in the campaign, good for an average of 1.09 per set.
NC State volleyball wraps up the spring season next weekend, April 16 at the UNCG tournament in Greensboro, N.C.
