MORGANTOWN, W. VA. --- NC State gymnast Rachel Fincham earned EAGL Specialist of the Week honors for her performances against #11 Penn St., Maryland, and Pitt over the weekend, announced Tuesday by the league office.
Fincham matched the 23rd-ranked Wolfpack’s season-high on bars, a mark she set on February 12, with her 9.9 Sunday at Pitt, good for a first place finish. Her 9.85 on Friday captured third place honors.
The sophomore has landed on the podium for her uneven bar performances in each of the Pack’s last five meets, which have included meetings with #8 UCLA, #10 Penn St., and #24 Arizona.
In addition, Fincham has been tabbed to help fill the void left by an injury to senior Brittany Vontz and has responded well with contributions of a 9.775 and 9.750 on beam and a 9.725 vault, this weekend, helping the Pack to a season-high 196.075 on Sunday.
Fincham becomes the second Pack gymnast to take home the honor this year, joining junior Jess Panza, and the third to be recognized in the EAGL weekly awards, along with Diahanna Ham’s EAGL Rookie of the Week mention in February.
The Gambrills, Md. native won an EAGL Rookie of the Week award in 2010, making this week’s honor the second of her career.
NC State returns to action Friday, March 12 with a visit to Minnesota to take on the 19th-ranked Gophers at 7 p.m.
