COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - NC State (7-9) softball dropped its contest with Tennessee Tech (7-7) tonight by a score of 3-1 in Cookeville, Tenn.
Bridget Desbois posted an excellent offensive day for NC State, going 2-for-3 with two singles in the game.
Morgan Peeler got the start for the Wolfpack in the circle, giving up one earned run on eight hits in six innings of work, striking out six Golden Eagles in the process.
The Pack threatened in the second inning when Bridget Desbois laced a single to lead off the frame. After Chelsea Hartsell reached on a fielder's choice and moved to into scoring position following a Caitlin Dent walk, NC State was unable to score as Chelsea Tate and Alicia Abbott flew out to end the inning.
Tennessee Tech struck first in the game, scoring two runs in the third inning. The Golden Eagles notched three-straight base hits and capitalized on a botched squeeze and subsequent NC State defensive error to get on the board.
The Golden Eagles extended their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Chanelle Spalding.
Linzy Rother came on in the seventh inning to pinch hit for the Pack, and roped a two-out RBI double to pull NC State within two runs, 3-1.
NC State softball returns to action tomorrow in Cookeville, Tenn., taking on Middle Tennessee State at 7 p.m. as a part of the Tennessee Tech Combat Classic.
