INDIANAPOLIS --- NC State gymnastics received a regional bid to Athens, Ga., as the NCAA announced selections for the 2011 National Collegiate Women’s Gymnastics Championships Monday.
The bid marks the ninth year in a row that the Pack will appear in an NCAA Regional, and the 23rd time in program history.
NC State earned the fourth seed in the Athens Regional, thanks to the team’s 26th-ranked RQS of 195.155.
The Pack will be joined by #6 UCLA, #8 Georgia, #18 LSU, Maryland, and West Virginia.
In addition to the six teams, five all-around competitors not on qualifying teams, and one individual event specialist per event were named to each of the six regions.
In each region, the top three seeds are among the top-18 teams in the nation, seeded on regional qualifying scores.
The teams seeded four, five, and six were ranked 19th through 36th at season’s end, and were assigned to a regional site based on geographic proximity.
All regionals will be conducted Saturday, April 2, with start times between 4 and 6 p.m. local time. NC State’s regional meet will begin at 4 p.m. ET.
The top two teams and the top two all-around competitions not on an advancing team from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in Cleveland, Ohio, April 15-17, hosted by Kent State University and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission.
In addition, event winners at each regional will advance to the national championships if they are not part of a qualifying team or an all-around qualifier.
