DURHAM, N.C. — Dennis O’Grady singled home two runs and Anthony D’Alessandro hit a three-run homer in Duke’s five-run third inning as the Blue Devils defeated NC State 7-1 Sunday in the final game of a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Duke, which improved to 13-4 with the victory, won the series two games to one. NC State fell to 8-7 with the loss.

The five-run third was the sum total of the game’s offense through the first six innings. Both teams scored in the seventh. The Wolfpack got its run when John Gianis hit a two-out triple to right-center field and scored on Brett Williams’ single off the leg of Duke pitcher Marcus Stroman. The Blue Devils scored twice in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly from Jeff Kremer and a single by O’Grady.

Stroman (1-0) worked seven complete innings and took a shutout into the seventh. He had a one-hitter through five innings before allowing two runs in both the sixth and seventh. He struck out seven and did not issue a walk.

Wolfpack starter Ethan Ogburn (0-1) rolled through the first two innings with minimal damage. He hit a batter in the first and allowed a walk and a single in the second, but stranded all three. David Perkins and Chris Marconcini led off the bottom of the third with singles and Kremer drew a one-out walk to load the bases.

Vance Williams came in and pitched well after allowing O’Grady’s single and D’Alessandro’s homer. Williams setled down after the homer and retired 10 of the next 12 batters before allowing the first two Duke batters to reach in the seventh.

NC State will return to action on Tuesday with a 3 p.m. game at Doak Field at Dail Park vs. Buffalo.
