ATHENS, Ga. - NC State softball earned its second win of the day in Athens, Ga. tonight, shutting out Winthrop (3-6) by a score of 8-0 in six innings in the Pack's fourth game as a part of the Georgia Softball Classic.

Kayla Cox earned the start in the circle for the Pack, giving up no runs on two hits and struck out nine in the game.

Toni Ann Williford paced NC State at the plate, going 3-for-4 and scoring two runs in the victory.

The Pack (6-3) struck early, taking a 2-0 lead over Winthrop in the first inning. After back-to-back singles by Alyssa Ishibashi and Williford, Alyssa Allbritten collected a base hit of her own, driving in Ishibashi for the squad's first run of the ball game. Later in the frame, Alicia Abbott plated Williford, extending NC State's advantage to 2-0.

Breanna Andrews opened the second inning with a walk and came around to score on a double by Williford, giving the Wolfpack a 3-0 lead.

Linzy Rother got NC State on the board again in the third inning, roping a double to score Alicia Abbott from first base, good for her first hit and RBI of the 2011 season.

In the fourth inning, Chelsea Tate led off with a triple and came around to score on a wild pitch to give the Wolfpack a 5-0 lead. Later in the frame, Bethaney Wells knocked a base hit, which plated Ishibashi and Williford for a 7-0 NC State advantage.

The Pack returns to action tomorrow, taking on No. 2 Georgia at 1 p.m. in Athens, Ga.
