Hill Named ACC Performer of Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – NC State sophomore Ryan Hill ran an NCAA automatic-qualifying time in the 3,000-meter run en route to being named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Indoor Track & Field Performer of the Week. Boston College senior Caroline King registered a first-place finish in the mile run and has been selected as the league’s Women’s Performer of the Week.
In just his second race of the indoor season, Hill shattered a 20-year-old school record with a time of 7:50.78 in the 3,000-meter run at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., Saturday. He also automatically qualified for the 2011 NCAA Championships. Hill finished fourth overall in a field of 120 that included both collegiate and post-collegiate runners. A native of Hickory, N.C., his time currently ranks third in the nation. He improved the school record set in 1991 by more than five seconds.
Hill is the second member of the Wolfpack track and field teams to be honored by the league this year. Junior thrower Lawanda Henry was the Jan. 18 selection as the ACC Women's Indoor Track & Field Performer of the Week.
King claimed her third consecutive meet title, taking first in the mile run at the Boston University Valentine Invitational Friday.
Seven league teams are in action this weekend. The Wolfpack will travel to Blacksburg, Va., for the Virginia Tech Challenge Friday and Saturday. The Eagles return to action Feb. 24-26 at the ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships in Blacksburg, Va.
