With its 1-0 win over Virginia Tech yesterday afternoon, the NC State men's soccer team will be in quarterfinal action tonight in the ACC Tournament, when the Wolfpack travels to North Carolina for a 7 p.m. contest. The First 300 NC State students with ID will be let into the NCSU-UNC men's soccer game for free tonight in Chapel Hill.
The meeting will be the ninth all-time in the ACC Tournament between the two rivals, and the third straight year they will meet.
The two teams met during the regular season in Chapel Hill on October 28. The Pack fell in overtime, 2-1. After the Tar Heels struck first in the 32nd minute, the Pack's Nader Jaibat tied the contest in the 75th minute. UNC's Billy Schuler came through with the game-winner 2:02 into overtime, the only shot in extra time.
With its win yesterday, NC State has now recorded at least one win in five of the last six ACC Tournaments. Since 2006, the Pack has a record of 5-5-1 in the ACC Tournament, compared to a record of just 1-13-2 in the 14 tournaments prior to 2006.
North Carolina won the ACC regular season title with a conference mark of 5-1-2.
