GREENSBORO, N.C. - NC State defender Shelli Spamer was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Soccer All-Freshmen team on Wednesday after a vote conducted by the 11 head coaches in the league.
Spamer started all 20 games on the back line for NC State (10-8-2). Her 1,850 minutes played this season was third most on the club.
She also ranks fifth on the team in scoring with eight points, scoring two goals and handing out a team-topping four assists in 2011.
"We are really happy for Shelli that the conference coaches recognized her as one of the top freshman in the best women's soccer league in the country," said head coach Steve Springthorpe.
"Shelli has been a key member of our back four this season helping us have one of the best seasons in many years. I know that Shelli is honored to have been selected along such a prestigious list of players."
