Choi Leads Bridgestone Collegiate at 2-under 70

GREENSBORO, N.C. – NC State sophomore Albin Choi is tied for the lead after round one at the UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate on Saturday from Forest Oaks Country Club.
Choi, from Toronto, Canada, fired a 2-under 70 and is tied with Patrick Barrett of North Carolina atop the field of 85 competitors.
The tournament was reduced from 54 to 36 holes due to the poor weather today only allowed the teams to get in 18 holes. The schedule was for each team to play two rounds alone on Saturday.
NC State is tied for sixth with a team total of 9-over 297.
South Carolina leads at 3-over 291. North Carolina and Virginia Tech are tied for second at 6-over 294.
Choi had a Wolfpack-leading six birdies today to land himself in the lead with 18 holes left to play on Sunday.
Senior Chad Day is tied for 20th after a 2-over 74. His scorecard featured five birdies, seven bogeys and six pars.
Freshman Andrew Decker sits in a tie for 44th at 4-over 76. He recorded three birdies on the day, including back-to-back red circles at holes 5 and 6.
Senior Mark McMillen and red-shirt freshman James Chapman are tied for 60th at 5-over 77.
Senior Hunter Howell is competing as an individual and is tied for 72nd at 7-over 79.
Sunday’s final round will be a shotgun start at 10 a.m. The Wolfpack will begin off holes 8-10.
