RALEIGH, N.C. --- NC State gymnastics will co-host "Beauty and the Beast", an intrasquad meet with NC State wrestling, Friday, January 7 in Reynolds Coliseum, beginning at 7 p.m.
"Beauty and the Beast" will feature an intrasquad meet between two teams composed of Wolfpack gymnasts and represents the final tuneup before the Pack's hosts nationally fourth-ranked Oklahoma in the season-opener January 14.
"We're hoping for a big crowd and a really loud, noisy, fun evening for the kids more than anything," said NC State head coach Mark Stevenson. "This event gives our team a chance to be under the gun and in front of the crowd, which they haven't faced yet. It gives them a very realistic feeling of what things will be like once the season starts."
The event will also serve as a benefit for Spare Some for Autism (SSfA), a non-profit organization founded in Raleigh, NC as an initiative to improve the quality of life for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
SSfA is dedicated to funding programs that will directly impact the individuals that suffer with ASD and allow them to achieve their highest level of independence within their home, school and community, while gaining respect and support for themselves. SSfA also aims to support families affected by ASD by educating them on such topics as literacy and coping with disabilities.
Admission is free to the public, with donations accepted at the door for SSfA. The organization has selected a boy and a girl to act as the honorary wrestler and gymnast for the meet. Festivities will also include an autograph session at the meet's conclusion.
