RALEIGH, N.C. --- NC State gymnastics, recently ranked 10th-nationally by Troester.com, hosts 18th-ranked West Virginia Friday, January 21 at 7 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum.
In the EAGL preseason poll, NC State finished first with three first-place votes, while West Virginia landed in third place, trailing only the Pack and defending EAGL-champions North Carolina.
The Wolfpack will look to build on the school-record season-opening performance it enjoyed last week against Oklahoma, currently ranked third-nationally. NC State scored a combined 195.150 at the meet, the highest-ever to open a season.
NC State hopes a blend of rookie and veteran talent will lead to success. The Pack relied heavily on upperclassmen Brittany Vontz, Jess Panza, and Brooke Barr, while utilizing talented freshmen Diahanna Ham and Stephanie Ouellette.
Vontz led the team with a 9.85 on the bars, while Barr and Panza led with 9.775s on beam. Ouellette finished first all-around with her 38.975 thanks to a team-leading 9.85 floor routine. Ham posted the team's best score on vault, a 9.8, good for a second-place finish at the meet.
Friday's meet will begin at 7 p.m. with live streaming on GoPack All-Access and live stats at GoPack.com. Promotions for Friday's "Kid's Night" include a facepainter, balloon artist, drawstring bag giveaway, and a post-meet autograph session with Pack gymnasts.
