GREENSBORO, N.C. - NC State junior Lawanda Henry, who won one event and was second in another at last weekend's Virginia Tech Invitational, has been named the ACC women's indoor track and field performer of the week. Virginia senior Adams Abdulrazaaq, who posted the nation's top time in the 60-meter hurdles at the same event, has been named the men's performer of the week.
Henry took first place in the shot put and second in the 20-pound weight throw. A three-time conference champion, Henry captured her second win of the season in the shot put, besting the field of 23 with a mark of 15.18 meters. The Dunn, N.C., native registered a mark of 18.48 meters in the 20-pound weight throw to garner second place, only finishing behind the current United States champion.
Abdulrazaaq won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.76, which currently ranks first in the country. He also shattered the school record of 7.85 that he set last season. The Highland Springs, Va., native qualified for the top spot after posting a time of 7.83 among a field of 30 in the preliminaries. With his victories in both the preliminaries and finals, he remains undefeated in the 60-meter hurdles this season.
The Wolfpack is back in action Friday when it returns to Blacksburg, Va., for the Hokie Invitational, along with fellow ACC members Clemson, Duke, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
