RALEIGH, N.C. --- NC State gymnastics opens the 2011 season on Friday, January14 at Reynolds Coliseum as it plays host to nationally fourth-ranked Oklahoma beginning at 7 p.m.
“Anytime you go against a top-five team in the country it’s a challenge,” said NC State head coach Mark Stevenson. “Oklahoma was second last year at the NCAA championships, and they’re an extremely talented squad. It’s going to take everything we have to hang with them, but we’re excited to start the season, and look forward to the opportunity to measure ourselves against one of the nation’s top teams.”
Recently, the Pack was selected as the preseason favorite in the EAGL in a poll conducted by conference coaches.
The Wolfpack returns defending EAGL floor champion Brooke Barr, along with seniors Brittany Vontz and Brittney Hardiman, both former EAGL All-Tournament performers.
In 2010, NC State finished with a record of 17-6, finished second in the EAGL, and earned an eighth-straight NCAA Regional berth.
Friday's meet includes a t-shirt giveaway, autograph session, a performance by Apex Gymnastics and free pizza for students provided by Domino's.
The meet can be viewed streaming live on GoPack All-Access along with live stats provided by GoPack.com. A full recap will be posted to GoPack.com at the conclusion of the event.
