Volleyball Falls to Indiana

NC State volleyball dropped a 3-0 decision to Indiana on Saturday, Sept. 4. The loss drops the Wolfpack to 5-1 on the season, and moves the Hoosiers to 6-0 in the 2010 campaign.
Becah Fogle and Brie Merriwether led the Pack offensively, scoring nine kills each. This marks a career high for Merriwether, a freshman from Orlando, Fla. She also hit at a team-best .500 clip for the match and gathered three blocks, one of which was a solo effort.
Megan Cyr dished out a team-high 33 assists, while gathering five digs and scoring one service ace in the match. Libero Kelly Wood paced the squad defensively, earning eight digs.
The Wolfpack fell to an early deficit in the first set, but came back to lead 17-13 thanks to a string of kills. The score went back-and-forth for the remainder of the set, but the Pack eventually lost 23-25. In the second set, the Pack kept pace with the Hoosiers for a while, but was plagued with attack and service errors throughout the frame, losing 19-25. NC State never held a lead in the third set, losing by a score of 20-25.
Fogle and Cyr were named to the all-tournament team for their outstanding efforts in the Indiana Tournament. Fogle scored 45 kills throughout the weekend, including a season-high 19 versus Illinois State. Cyr lead the Wolfpack in assists each game of the tournament, lifting 123 overall.
NC State opens the home portion of its schedule next weekend in the NC State Tournament. Action begins Friday, Sept. 10 as the Pack battles Georgia Southern at 7 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum. The tournament continues Saturday, Sept. 11 when NC State hosts Mercer at 1 p.m. and Morehead State at 7:30 p.m.
