RALEIGH, N.C. - Tanya Cain had a goal and an assist to lead a four-goal second-half outburst for NC State in a 4-0 victory over Pittsburgh Friday night from Dail Soccer Field.
NC State's first three markers came fast and furious. Freshman Ariela Schreibeis scored at the 58:26 mark to give the Wolfpack a 1-0 lead.
66 seconds later Kara Blosser capitalized on a quick developing passing display by Kristina Argiroff and Claudel Pilon to notch her second goal of the year, giving NC State a 2-0 lead.
The fireworks continued in the 64th minute when Tanya Cain raced down the center of the field, cut to her left and unleashed a shot that bounced off the left post and into the net for her first of the year.
That marked the 10th different goal scorer for NC State (3-2) in just five games.
Freshman Jennie Krauser capped the scoring festivities in the 87th minute when she grabbed a pass from Cain and blasted a right-footed shot over the outstretched keeper's arms from 18 yards.
NC State keeper Kim Kern faced only five shots all night and came up with two saves for her first clean sheet of 2010.
The first half had very few scoring chances for either team. In fact Pittsburgh did not attempt a shot in the opening 45 minutes, while the Pack put three shots in the direction of goal.
Meagan Proper broke free from the Pitt defense and put a shot on net that keeper Morie Kephart corralled for the only save of the half.
NC State hosts Loyola (Md.) Sunday at 1 p.m.
