Volleyball Heads to Final Tournament

NC State will travel to Wilmington, N.C., Sept. 17-18 to compete in its final tournament of the 2010 season, the UNCW Hilton Garden Inn Beach Bash. The Wolfpack will play three matches in the tournament, facing host UNC Wilmington (3-7), Campbell (2-10) and Elon (7-5).
The Pack will battle UNCW at 7 p.m. Friday before taking on Campbell (1:30 p.m.) and Elon (4:30 p.m.) on Saturday, Sept. 18.
NC State enters the tournament with an 8-1 record, the programs best since 1995. The squad is fresh off of a strong weekend of play in the Hilton RTP Invitational, where it defeated Georgia Southern, Mercer and Morehead State en route to the tournament title.
Statistically speaking, the Wolfpack squad has improved greatly under first year head coach Bryan Bunn. Sophomore Megan Cyr leads the ACC in assists, averaging 11.87 per set, which also places her eighth nationally in that category. Junior middle blocker Margaret Salata tops the conference in blocks with an average of 1.40 per set, ranking her 16th in the NCAA. The squad also ranks first in the ACC in assists (13.57 per set) and second in kills (14.27 per set).
The Wolfpack posts an overall 16-5 record versus the UNCW Hilton Garden Inn Beach Bash field, having gone 2-1 all-time versus UNCW, 8-3 against Campbell and 6-1 in contests with Elon.
Each tournament match will be broadcast via Livestats, available by clicking the link on the NC State volleyball schedule page. In additon, there will be a pay-per-view video feed of the match versus UNCW, available for purchase on UNCW's volleyball site.
NC State opens conference play Sept. 21 in Reynolds Coliseum against UNC.
