RALEIGH, N.C. -
The NC State men’s soccer team returns to ACC action this weekend, as the Wolfpack travels up to No. 5 Maryland for a 7:00 p.m. contest this Saturday night.
Fans will be able to watch online at www.umterps.com, and can also follow the game on GameTracker.
NC State stands at 2-2 on the young season, and Maryland will be the fifth opponent during the first five games of the season that was ranked in the preseason top-30 by CollegeSoccerNews.com.
The Pack is coming off of its first shutout of the season, a 4-0 home win over VMI on Wednesday night. The Pack offense has been spread out this season, as seven different players have scored the Pack’s nine goals through four games this year. Senior Tyler Lassiter and sophomore Michael both have two goals, while three freshmen have also found the back of the net. Junior Watt Williams leads the team with three assists, while three other players have two. Junior Will Mackvick has played every minute in goal thus far, and recorded his first career shutout against VMI on Wednesday.
Maryland enters this contest ranked No. 5 on CollegeSoccerNews.com, and No. 7 in this week’s NSCAA poll. The Terps return to Ludwig Field after two straight road contests, where they tied then-No. 5 Boston College, 1-1, and won at Loyola on Tuesday, 3-0.
The Terps (2-1-1, 0-0-1 ACC) are off to a scorching offensive start, netting 12 goals through their first four matches. That total is the most for a Maryland squad since 2005, when the Terps won their first national title since 1968. Billy Cortes, Matt Kassel, and Casey Townsend lead the attack with two goals each while keeper Zac MacMath paces the defensive unit with a pair of shutouts and a solid 1.17 goals against average.
