NC State hits the road for its final non-conference game of the season against Old Dominion on Friday night.
The Wolfpack is 5-3 heading into the game after picking up its fifth shutout of the year in a 1-0 win at home over Florida International last Sunday.
NC State ranks 12th nationally in scoring offense with 2.88 goals per game. The Pack's 23 goals scored is just four shy of the total scored in all of 2009. The defense also earns plaudits with the 25th best shutout percentage in the nation with its five clean sheets in eight matches.
Freshman Jennie Krauser continues to lead the club in scoring with 12 points (four goals, four assists). She is tied for ninth in the ACC in total points, and is tied for seventh in assists.
Junior Kristina Argiroff is next on the scoring ledger with 11 points on four goals and three assists. Junior Tanya Cain has also dished out four helpers this season, tying Krauser for the team lead. That figure is tied for 20th nationally according to the latest NCAA stat report that came out on Monday.
11 different players have scored already for NC State. 2007 was the last season that NC State had as many different goal scorers.
Junior goalkeeper Kim Kern has started all eight matches and owns a 0.71 goals-against-average, the fifth best mark in the ACC.
Scouting Old Dominion: The Monarchs earned a 2-1 overtime victory over Radford last time out to improve to 2-1-1 on the season.
Having scored only eight goals in the first four games of the season, Jocelyn Weidner, Kirstin Walker and Amber Cook have each scored twice to lead ODU.
Keeper Brianna Alvarado has played every minute so far this year, and has compiled a 1.18 GAA with nine saves.
NC State defeated ODU, 3-0, last year in head coach Steve Springthorpe's first game with the Wolfpack. Paige Dugal, Nadia Aboulhosn and Chantalle Dugas each scored in the win that gave Springthorpe a victory over his former college coach and mentor Joe Pereira, the 16-year veteran coach of ODU.
NC State opens ACC play next Thursday at Clemson at 7 p.m.
