Salata Named CVU.com Top Performer

Junior middle blocker Margaret Salata was named one of this week's Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) Top Performers for the week of Sept. 6-12, 2010.
Salata, a native of Buffalo Grove, Ill., helped lead the Wolfpack to a perfect 3-0 record and tournament title in the Hilton RTP Invitational. There, the squad took victories from Georgia Southern, Mercer and Morehead State, as Salata was named to the all-tournament team for the second time this season.
Against Georgia Southern, Salata tallied 17 kills while hitting at a team best .630 clip. She also earned three service aces, six digs and four total blocks, two of which were solo while leading the Pack to a 3-1 victory over the Eagles.
Salata's numbers were just as impressive versus Mercer, where she again paced the squad in attack percentage (.600) and kills (11). Her two service aces and four blocks (2 solo) helped the Wolfpack earn a 3-0 victory over the Bears.
In the final match of the Hilton RTP Invitational, NC State's offense dominated. The squad utilized a .466 team attack percentage and 47 kills to sweep the Eagles in three sets. For the third time in as many matches, Salata led the Wolfpack, hitting at an incredible .692 clip. She also scored nine kills, two service aces, three digs and six blocks.
For the tournament, Salata smashed 37 kills in 10 sets while hitting at a .640 clip. She also earned 14 blocks, an average of 1.4 per set. Her accurate hitting helped lead the Wolfpack to a team attack percentage of .350 for the weekend.
NC State returns to action this weekend, Sept. 17 and 18, in Wilmington, N.C. for the UNCW Hilton Garden Inn Beach Bash. There, the squad will take on host UNC Wilmington (Sept. 17, 7 p.m.) Campbell (Sept. 18, 1:30 p.m.) and Elon (Sept. 18, 4:30 p.m.).
