RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State women's soccer team returns to the pitch Monday night to host Coastal Carolina in its second match of the 2010 season.
On Friday, Texas slipped past the Wolfpack, 2-1, in the season opener for both clubs. NC State knotted the game at 1-all in the 61st minute when freshman Jennie Krauser made her debut a memorable one by scoring the first goal of the season for the red and white.
NC State held a 11-5 advantage in shots, including a 5-1 edge in the first half. Texas keeper Alexa Gaul came up with a pair of big saves in that opening half of play to keep the Pack off the scoreboard.
Three freshmen, Krauser, Randi Soldat and Claudel Pilon, all started in their collegiate debuts, while classmates Kaley Shlaes, Ariela Schrebeis and Karri Owens each saw time in reserve roles.
Coastal Carolina suffered a 4-0 loss at Kentucky in its season opener Saturday in Lexington, Ky.
The Chanticleers gave up two goals in each half to the Wildcats. Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Barton played all 90 minutes, earning four saves along the way.
