RALEIGH, N.C. - The Wolfpack softball team is back on campus. Head coach Lisa Navas and her staff welcomed the 2011 squad to Raleigh by hosting a family picnic on Sunday, Aug. 15. This gathering was a chance for team members, old and new, to reunite and meet for the first time. It also gave the student athlete's families an opportunity to gather and discuss the anticipation of another softball season and school year.
"We are excited about what our team has in store this year," said Navas. "We are returning a great core of players, and the newcomers are a talented group, whom we will expect to contribute for us this season. Overall, I am excited for the 2011 season, and am ready to get fall practice underway."
The squad will be lead by seniors Alyssa Ishibashi, Alyssa Allbritten, Bridget Desbois and Alicia Abbott. In addition to six promising freshmen (Scout Albertson, Albernice Drayton, Kayla Cox, Chelsea Hartsell, Leah Jones and Chelsea Tate), the team also adds two transfers (Kirstin Morris, Jade Hennig) to the roster.
The Pack has been busy its first week back on campus, filling time with a welcome dinner with new director of athletics Deborah A. Yow, plenty of meetings and the team's annual fitness challenge lurking on the horizon for Saturday, Aug. 21.
