RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State quarterback Russell Wilson has been added to the watch list for the Manning Award. The award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, has honored the top quarterback in the nation for the past six years.
Wilson ranked fourth nationally in touchdown passes last season with 31, leading the ACC and standing as the second-best single-season tally in school history. He established an NCAA record last year by attempting 379 passes without an interception, and has thrown just 12 picks throughout his career while tossing 48 touchdowns.
In 2009 against Florida State he tied a school record with five touchdown passes in a single game, after racking up 91 yards on the ground against Pitt for the highest rushing total by a Wolfpack quarterback since 1976.
Wilson, who was drafted by the Colorado Rockies and is currently playing with the Tri-City Dust Devils, is scheduled to report when football camp begins on Aug. 3. NC State will face Western Carolina in its 2010 season opener on Sept. 4 at Carter-Finley Stadium.
