Hammond Falls In Match Play at Pub Links

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - NC State women's golfer Hayley Hammond reached the match play portion of the 34th U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship on Wednesday, but fell 5 & 3 to Alice Kim in the first round.
After shooting consecutive rounds of four-over-par 75 during Monday and Tuesday to make the cut into match play, Hammond was paired up with Kim, an honorable mention All-American from UC Davis.
A rising sophomore for the Wolfpack, Hammond went 1 up after two holes, but Kim squared the match the next hole and it stayed that way through No. 5.
Kim then took control of the match by winning four-straight holes to own a 4 up lead through nine holes.
Hammond birdied No. 12 to get it to 3 up, but that was as close as she got before Kim closed out the match at No. 15 with the win.
The low 64 competitors among the field of 155 qualified for match play.
Hammond finished tied for 46th after the two rounds of stroke play.
Tuesday's second round saw her post birdies at Nos. 1 and 16.
She record birdies at Nos. 1, 17 and 18 during Monday's trek around the par-71 layout.
The tournament was held at the Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame.
