RALEIGH, N.C. – After five seasons with the Pack, assistant coach Karen Pleasants has decided to resign in order to spend more time with her family. A former NC State gymnast herself, Pleasants was involved in coaching both beam and floor, and doing the choreography for both while at NC State.
“I appreciate everything Karen has done for our program, both as a gymnast and later as an assistant coach, while she has been with us,” said NC State head coach Mark Stevenson. “She has been a key part to our success in the EAGL since she has been here, and will be missed.”
Pleasants was named the 2008 NCAA Regional Assistant Coach of the Year for her work in coaching beam and floor that season, including EAGL co-floor champions Taylor Seaman and Leigha Hancock and NCAA Southeast Regional Beam champion, Hancock.
During her five seasons with the Pack, Pleasants helped guide the Pack to EAGL titles in 2007 and 2009, and second place finishes in her other three seasons on staff. The Pack also advanced to the NCAA Regional Championships each season.
