Two Qualify for NCAA Outdoor Championships

Two members of the NC State women’s track and field squad will compete at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, after qualifying today with their finishes at the NCAA Eastern Preliminary round in Greensboro. The national meet will be held in Eugene, Oregon, June 9-12. Senior Kayla Lawson tied for first in the high jump with a 1.81 meter (5’11-1/4”) height to advance to the national meet for the first time in her career. In the women’s shot put, sophomore and school record holder Lawanda Henry finished 11th with a 15.77m (51’9”) mark in the shot put to advance to nationals for the second time in her two years of competition. Reggie Reese finished third in the quarterfinals of the 100 meters with a time of 10.54 to advance to tomorrow’s semifinals. A’Tolani Akinuotu also competed in the 100 meters, clocking in at 11.06, but did not advance to tomorrow’s semi-finals. Reese will run again at 6 pm on Friday. Kara McKenna and John Martinez will compete in the women's and men's steeplechase events tomorrow, while Jason Jones will throw the shot put .
