Day 7 - Friday (Dublin)
Another beautiful, sunny Irish day. The golfers headed out early to The European Club and enjoyed the spectacular views of the Irish Sea. According to the Coach it was a challenging day on the links (translation: “I didn't win”). Helen Snyder again had to represent the ladies on the golf trip. We girls appreciated this as it did cut into her shopping a bit ... luckily the Irish have put many shops in the airport so all the leftover Euros will stay in the country!
Another group took a private tour of Trinity College with Kieran (who recently received his PhD from the University. The college was founded by Elizabeth I in the 16th century and is the home of the Book of Kells and many other of the illuminated manuscripts written by the medieval monks of Ireland. Several folks visited several of the national museums and many spent the afternoon finishing up their shopping.
The day was capped by a short trip into the Wicklow hills to the highest pub in Ireland (I'm pretty certain this means it at the highest elevation) - Johnny Fox's. Needless to say, a good time was had by all. The music was Irish traditional tunes and some Emmylou Harris!
Day 8 - Saturday
Saturday and another beautiful, sunny and quite warm day in Ireland. The country will probably run out of sunscreen by the end of the weekend. The volcano in Iceland has calmed down a bit and it appears those of us heading back to the states will probably make it home today. Several travelers are heading to Paris from Dublin and some will remain for a few more days. Tom and Lutu Coffey will stay for a few more days with their daughter and her husband Darragh (and their son Conor). Darragh's parents live in the Dublin area.
We have had a wonderful time and wish you all could have joined us. Thanks to all who have made this trip possible and we hope the two Brians have the opportunity for a much deserved rest after keeping track of us all with infinite patience and good humor!
Cheers!
