Hill Sets School Record in 5000 meters

Ryan Hill, a freshman in track eligibility, set the second school record of his brief collegiate outdoor track career last night at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational held at Stanford University. Hill clocked in at 13:44.36 in the 5000 meters to break the school record of 13:46.93 that was set by Bob Henes in 1991. Earlier this season, Hill set the school mark in the 1500 meters, posting a time of 3:40.81. Hill finished 14th in his section of the event, but posted the top time for a collegian. In other men’s action, John Martinez finished sixth in the 3000 meter steeplechase, cloking in at 8:48.40, while Geoff King was 16th in that event at 10:32.59. Patrick Campbell finished 23rd in section 3 of the 5000 meters with a 14:40.53 clocking, while Bobby Moldovan was 29th in section 2, running 14:31.68. Former Wolfpack runners Stephen Furst and Bobby Mack ran in the section with Hill, with Furst finishing sixth at 13:36.25 and Mack coming in eighth at 13:39.09. In women’s action, Kara McKenna posted a season-best time for the Wolfpack of 10:24.66 to finish second in the steeplechase. Julia Kick finished sixth in that event at 10:32.59, while Lauren Doherty clocked in at 10:45.25 to finish 12th. Andie Cozzarelli ran the 5000 meters for the women, finishing 17th in her section with a time of 18:44.87.
