RALEIGH, N.C. - After taking second place at the EAGL Championship on March 27, the NC State gymnastics team is heading to the NCAA Southeast Regional competition. The Pack will go to Morgantown, W.Va. on April 10 to take on No. 6 Stanford, No. 6 Michigan, No. 18 Southern Utah,, Kent State, and host West Virginia.
Through West Virginia’s website, the NCAA Regionals will be broadcasted for free by clicking here.
The top two teams, and the top two all-around competitors who are not on advancing teams will advance to the national championships on April 22-24 in Gainesville, Fla. Event winners will also advance, but only for that event, and if they are not already part of the qualifying teams or are the top-two all-around gymnasts.
NC State as a team has competed in the NCAA Southeast Regional 21 times in program history, including 17 out of the last 18 years. Last season, the Pack hosted the NCAA Regionals in Reynolds Coliseum and came away with a sixth place finish. Taylor Seaman won the floor competition with a 9.95, and advanced to the NCAA Championships.
The team's best showing has been third place, with the Wolfpack taking that position four times, the last being in 1999. NC State advanced to the NCAA Championship as a team in 1998 after placing third at Regionals, when the top-three teams received an automatic berth, and the Pack finished 11th at the championships.
Last season, Seaman became only the second NC State gymnasts to win an event at Regionals and advance to the NCAA Championships. In 2006, Leigha Hancock also won floor and in 2008 Hancock took first place honors on beam. The Pack has sent individuals to the championships four other times, when more than just the event winner advanced.
