RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State softball lost both games of a doubleheader to East Carolina on Wednesday, April 14 at the Curtis & Jacqueline Dail Softball Stadium by scores of 1-0 and 7-0.
The losses send the Wolfpack to 24-19, while the Pirates climb to 25-14.
East Carolina picked up a 1-0 eight-inning win in the first contest, with Lindsay Campana (16-7) allowing only six hits while fanning 10. Toni Paisley (18-8) picked up the victory.
Alyssa Ishibashi had two hits in as many at-bats.
Campana pitched her way out of a jam in the top of the second, fanning Marina Gusman-Brown with the bases loaded to end the inning.
The Pack had a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the fifth as Ishibashi singled and advanced to second on a Landon Warren fielder’s choice, but Breanna Andrews lined out to the circle.
ECU got the lone run of the game in the top of the eighth when Charina Sumner singled and later scored on a Suzanne Riggs pinch-hit base hit up the middle.
Game two saw the Pirates grab a 7-0 win. Faith Sutton (7-6) got the decision while Stephanie Call (6-7) took the loss in 4 1/3 innings of work. Morgan Peeler worked the circle for 2 2/3 innings.
Sissy Jimenez led off the top of the second with a solo shot to dead center, giving the Pirates a quick 1-0 advantage.
NC State had a scoring opportunity in the bottom of the fourth as Alyssa Allbritten doubled and Melton took her place at second, but she was left stranded at third.
A five-run fifth broke it open for ECU as Cristen Aona and Kaui Tom had back-to-back RBI singles and Jimenez belted a two-run shot.
Kai Clark made it 7-0 Pirates with a solo homer to start the top of the sixth.
NC State will resume ACC play this weekend, April 17-18, at Virginia in Charlottesville, Va.
