Gymnastics Looks to Defend League Title

The NC State gymnastics team will look to defend its league title on Saturday, March 27 in Durham, N.H. at the 2010 EAGL Championship. NC State has won two of the last three EAGL titles, winning in 2007 at College Park, Maryland and last year in Raleigh. NC State has won four total titles, winning back-to-back championships in 1999 and 2000.
In the 2009 championships, the Wolfpack finished strong on bars with a season-high to rally for the win with a 195.700. Lauren Deuser and Brittany Vontz were co-bars champion.
This season, NC State has led the conference in average score and NCAA RQS throughout the season and currently ranks No. 28 nationally. The team also leads the conference on bars and floor, is third on vault and fourth on beam.
Sophomore Brooke Barr has continued to impress, as she leads the team with 27 top-3 event finishes, including 10 wins. Barr is second in EAGL on vault and leads the team.
Senior Taylor Seaman, who recently set the NC State record for most career all-around scores of 39.000 or higher, leads the team with 14 event wins and is second with 25 top-3 event finishes. She leads EAGL and the team on floor.
Sophomore Jess Panza (19 top-3, 4 wins), junior Brittany Vontz (6 top-3, 8 wins) and freshman Rachel Fincham (10 top-3, 3 wins) each have 10 or more top-3 finishes.
Panza leads the team on beam and is fourth in EAGL, and leads the team in the all-around and is third in EAGL. Fincham leads EAGL on bars as a true freshman.
