Gymnastics Drops Meet at No. 5 Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. - NC State gymnastics fell on the road Sunday at No. 5 Georgia, the five-time defending national champions, by a score of 196.800 - 193.900. NC State had strong performances on vault, bars and floor. However, the Pack suffered a low beam score that helped Georgia pull out the win after NC State narrowly trailed heading into the fourth rotation, 147.250 - 146.850.
Brooke Barr scored a 9.875 on vault, finishing third at the meet and helping lead the team to a season-high 49.000 on the event. Brittany Vontz, Taylor Seaman and Brittney Hardiman all tied for fifth on vault with a 9.800.
Taylor Seaman's second place finish on floor with a 9.925 - the second-best floor score of her career - pushed NC State to a season-best team score of 49.200. Barr scored a 9.875 on floor, Jess Panza had a 9.850 and Becca Teich chipped in a 9.825.
On bars, NC State scored a 48.650, the seventh time in 10 meets that the bars score was a 48.650 or better. Seaman and Rachel Fincham tied for fifth at the meet with a 9.825 as the duo continues to be at the top of the EAGL lists for the event.
Jess Panza led the beam squad with a 9.75 for a fifth place showing, though the team had to count two falls on the event.
Seaman finished second in the all-around with a 38.575, scoring a 9.8 or better in three of the four events.
NC State will return home for a March 19th meet against William & Mary at 7 pm. That meet is senior night for Seaman and Lauren Deuser, and the final regular season meet for the Pack.
