No. 25 Gymnastics Upsets No. 10 Nebraska

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State gymnastics defeated its highest-ranked opponent ever in school history, downing No. 10 Nebraska in front of 3,721 fans at Reynolds Coliseum. The Pack also defeated rival North Carolina in the Sweetheart Invitational.
"I'm really excited about how the meet turned out," head coach Mark Stevenson said. "We beat Nebraska for the first time ever and they are a top-10 team.
"We are getting better and if we keep at it we have a shot. The talent is there but we just need to believe in ourselves."
NC State scored a season-best 195.575, tied for the 21st best score in school history and it was the top team score since the 2008 season. The Cornhuskers scored a 195.000 and North Carolina had a 193.875. As a team, NC State won bars and finished second on vault, beam and floor.
Jess Panza (a career-high 39.225), Taylor Seaman (a season-high tying 39.150) and Brooke Barr (a career-high tying 39.000) finished 2-3-4 at the meet, respectively.
The Pack started on vault and tied its season-high with a 48.975. Every gymnast scored over a 9.750, and four had a 9.775. Taylor Seaman had her best score of the season and led the team with a 9.875. That score was good for third at the meet overall.
Bars was the next event for the Wolfpack, and the team tied another season-best with a 48.925. Freshman Rachel Fincham posted her best score for the the Pack with a 9.875 to lead the team and win the first event of her career. Seaman - who leads EAGL on bars - continued to post impressive scores on bars with a 9.850 to take third.
Nebraska was ranked No. 14 on bars and No. 10 on beam coming into the meet, but the Wolfpack team defeated them head-to-head in both events.
The beam lineup set a new season-high on the event, scoring a 48.725. Jess Panza scored a 9.875, a season-high and the second-best score of her career. She was second in the event overall at the meet. Anna Kronenfeld finished sixth with a career-high 9.775 and was the second-place finisher on the team.
On floor, Becca Teich got things going with a career-best 9.85 and that would put her third overall at the meet and just behind Brooke Barr's 9.875, which was good for second at the meet. As a team, NC State finished with a 48.950 on floor.
NC State returns to Reynolds on Saturday, February 27th at 7 p.m. to host Pittsburgh.
