Hopkins Wins Platform Dive, Shepler Earns All-ACC

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Hannah Hopkins picked up her second all-conference nod in as many days and won the platform dive to highlight a sensational final day at the ACC Championships for the NC State women’s swimming and diving program. Kirstyn Shepler was also named All-ACC in the platform dive, while Wolfpack swimmers set four new school records, hit five NCAA “B” cut qualifying standards and posted 11 new top-10 all-time swims.
Hopkins won the platform dive and finished just shy of 2009 NCAA Champion and Wolfpack legend Kristin Davies’ school record (314.20) with a 312.35 in the platform dive. Shepler took third overall to also pick up All-ACC hardware with a 274.60 score.
The 100 freestyle section of the school record book was entirely re-written with four new top-10 marks, including a school record “B” cut of 49.42 from Ashley Richter. Patrice Dason’s 51.03 is fifth-fastest all time, while Erica Waters’ 51.19 is sixth and Marifrances Henley’s 51.28 is seventh. Allison Hendren added a 52.34.
Anna Linkenauger and Christina McCann both hit “B” cuts and top-10 all-time times in the 200 breaststroke, with Linkenauger surpassing her old school record with a 2:15.90. McCann’s 2:16.70 is second-best in program history. Jessica Ward (2:21.47), Sarah Merritt (2:24.19) and Tracy Rorer (2:27.10) all had solid swims.
Maresa Like-Mathews hit a “B” cut of her own and set a new Wolfpack record in the 200 butterfly by clocking in at 1:59.83, while Maggie McEnerney’s 2:03.41 is eighth-best in the school annals.
Richter, Dason, Waters and Henley combined to set a new school record in the 400-freestyle relay, posting a 3:21.03 “B” cut mark.
Taryn Shelley offered the sixth-fastest 1650 freestyle ever at NC State, etching a 16:53.73.
Brianna Grover posted the third-best 200 backstroke in school history with a 2:00.95, while Jen Kopenitz (2:01.66) and Morgan Robertson (2:04.30) also competed.
In men’s diving, both Hudson Rains (251.30) and Chris Arcara (250.90) had their best showings all year in the platform dive.
The NC State women’s swimming and diving team finished in seventh-place overall with 271 points.
