TAMPA, Fla. – Stephanie Call and Bridget Desbois both went deep twice, and Lindsay Campana held North Dakota State to three hits as NC State topped the 2009 Super Regional opponent by a 6-2 score. The game marked the first time in Wolfpack softball history that two players hit two home runs in the same game.
The win moves the Pack to 4-2 on the year, while the Bison’s fall to 3-3.
Campana (2-1) got the win, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out six. Both of her runs were unearned. Whitney Johnson (1-2) took the loss for ND State.
Call gave the Pack an early1-0 lead in the top of the second with a tape measure blast over the wall in left.
Desbois doubled that lead with a solo shot of her own that hugged the left field line to lead off the top of the third. Landon Warren then drew a walk and moved to second on a Lauren Peters sac-bunt. Alyssa Allbritten made it 2-0 Wolfpack with an RBI double into left.
Desbois did it again in the top of the fourth, cracking another blast over the wall in left and extending NC State’s lead to 4-0.
North Dakota State threatened in the bottom of the fourth but got nothing to show for it. Brea Konz walked and Maryssa McKenzie reached on a Katie Mansilla fielding error at short with one out. But Nicole Rivera lined out to Desbois at third, who promptly doubled up Konz at second with a throw to Toni Ann Williford.
Call went deep again in the top of the sixth, squashing a two-run blast down the line in left. Allison Presnell stroked a single into right field to start the inning, and Call followed with her second shot of the day, third on the year.
North Dakota State got two runs in the bottom of the sixth, as the Pack kicked the ball around defensively for three errors.
NC State will return to the diamond to face Hofstra at 8:15 p.m.
