RALEIGH, N.C. -
NC State volleyball will hit the court for its final match of the 2010 season Friday, Nov. 26, in Chapel Hill, N.C., when the squad will battle rival North Carolina at noon.
The Wolfpack (14-17, 4-15 ACC) has had a greatly improved season under first year head coach Bryan Bunn in 2010, earning the most overall (14) and conference (4) victories since 1999. In addition, this season, the Pack defeated Miami for the first time in program history, and ended an 11-year losing streak to Georgia Tech.
Luciana Shafer has scored 287 kills this season, tops for the Wolfpack offense. She also leads NC State in double-doubles (8),service aces (27), and is second on the squad in digs (299). Margaret Salata owns the highest kills per set average, earning 2.81 per game, and boasts the highest attack percentage on the squad, hitting at an impressive .341 clip this season.
Megan Cyr has dished out at total of 1105 assists in 2010, which ranks her 11th all time at NC State in a single season. Libero Kelly Wood paces the Wolfpack defensively, and had corralled 395 so far this year, good for an average of 3.66 per set.
The Wolfpack have already battled North Carolina this season, dropping a 3-0 decision to the Tar Heels in the first ACC contests for both squads. Since then, though, NC State has improved offensively and defensively in Bunn’s first year at the helm of the program.
North Carolina (23-9, 14-5 ACC) currently sits second in the ACC standings. The Tar Heels defeated both Georgia Tech (3-2) and Clemson (3-0) last weekend, and are lead offensively by Courtney Johnston (327 kills) and Emily McGee (310).
