Cain, Kern Named to Academic All-District Team

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State juniors Tanya Cain and Kim Kern were voted to the ESPN Academic All-District® women's soccer team on Tuesday.
Cain, from Pinebluff, N.C., was recognized on the All-District first team. She owns a 3.97 grade point average as an accounting major at NC State. She was a second-team honoree last season as a sophomore.
By virtue of being named to the All-District first team, Cain is now a candidate for the All-America team that will be voted upon later this week.
Cain finished third in scoring for the Wolfpack with 12 points on four goals and four assists.
Kern, from Raleigh, N.C., was tabbed the All-District third team goalkeeper. She has a 3.34 GPA in sports management.
She started all 19 games for the Wolfpack in 2010. She posted a 1.40 goals-against-average with 87 saves and four shutouts.
Under the guidance of head coach Steve Springthorpe the last two seasons; three different players have earned four Academic All-District awards.
