RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State volleyball will open its road ACC schedule this weekend, traveling to Wake Forest on Oct. 8 and Duke on Oct. 9, with both contests beginning at 7 p.m.
The Wolfpack (12-5, 2-3 ACC) looks to build upon last weekend's strong play that included a three-game sweep of Miami, the first victory over the Hurricanes in program history. In addition, the straight-set sweep gave the Pack shutouts against more than one ACC opponent for the first time since 1995. NC State also swept Boston College on Sept. 24.
Under first year head coach Bryan Bunn, the revamped Wolfpack squad has earned more overall wins (12) and conference victories (2) midway through the 2010 season than the totals of the 2009 Pack team, which gathered eight overall and one conference win.
So far this season, defensively the Pack has been greatly improved, holding opponents to a league leading .141 attack percentage. Led by junior Margaret Salata's 70 total blocks, the defense averages 2.1 blocks per set.
Megan Cyr currently ranks third in the ACC with an average of 10.67 assists per set and Becah Fogle's 3.33 kills per set put her fourth in the conference.
Last weekend, Wake Forest (10-5, 3-2 ACC) fell in five sets to Maryland, but swept Boston College. The squad is led offensively by junior Kadija Fornah, whose 3.55 kills per set pace the Demon Deacons.
Duke (13-2, 5-0 ACC), is currently tied atop the ACC with North Carolina. The squad, which bested Maryland 3-2 and swept Boston College in straight sets last weekend, boasts the reigning ACC Player of the Week, Amanda Robertson, and Freshman of the Week, Ali McCurdy.
For the match against Wake Forest, Gametracker coverage will be available via GoPack.com, and Duke will live stream the match from Durham, N.C.
