CLEMSON, S.C. -
The NC State men’s soccer team fell at Clemson on Sunday afternoon, 3-1. After giving up a goal just 27 seconds into the game, the Wolfpack (7-7-2, 0-5-2 ACC) evened things up before halftime, but it was the Tigers’ (5-7-4, 2-3-2 ACC) two second-half goals that gave them the home win.
Clemson wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, scoring its fastest goal in school history to start a game. The Tigers would score just 27 seconds into the match, when Austin Savage scored with a close shot into the Pack’s net.
The Pack would eventually even things at 1-1 in the 20th minute. After a Clemson foul, sophomore Michael Smith would take a free kick and lofted it into the Clemson penalty box. Freshman John Lung’aho would get behind the Tiger’s defense, and score for the second straight game at the 19:04 mark.
The game was tied 1-1 at the half.
The Tigers would score twice in a span of just over two minutes in the second half to come away with the win. Tommy Drake scored off a pass from K.C. Onyeador at the 74:26 mark to give Clemson the lead for good.
Clemson would add an insurance goal in the 77th minute, when Onyeador converted a loose ball in the Pack penalty box at the 76:44 mark for the final goal of the game.
The Pack will have two more regular season games left, both at home this week. NC State will host Florida Atlantic on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m., and then the Pack will host Virginia on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
