Head coach Lisa Navas and the Wolfpack softball staff announced the 2011 schedule today. The challenging slate features games against 12 teams that appeared in the 2010 NCAA softball championship, including Women’s College World Series participants Georgia and Florida.
The Wolfpack will kick off the 2011 season in Tampa, Fla., at the USF Wilson DeMarini Tournament. There the squad will face fifth place Women’s College World Series finisher Florida, as well as Long Island, Florida Gulf Coast, USF and Marshall.
In addition, the Pack will compete in four tournaments—the Georgia Softball Classic, the Tarheel Invitational, the Tennessee Tech Combat Classic and the Wolfpack Challenge—before beginning Atlantic Coast Conference play.
The Wolfpack Challenge, NC State’s tournament, will feature Stony Brook, Fairfield, Maine, Charleston Southern and James Madison.
In ACC play, the Pack will host Florida State, North Carolina and Virginia, all of whom participated in last year’s NCAA tournament. Additionally, in non-conference matchups, the squad will play host to UNC Greensboro and Charlotte.
The Pack will hit the road to take on Georgia Tech, Boston College, Maryland and Virginia Tech in league competition. In non-conference play, NC State will head to Elon, East Carolina, and South Carolina for road matchups.
The 2011 season begins Thursday, Feb. 10 as the Pack battle USF at 6 p.m. in Tampa, Fla.
