RALEIGH, N.C. -
NC State volleyball (12-9, 2-7 ACC) is set to host Virginia and Virginia Tech in ACC volleyball action this weekend. The Wolfpack will face the Cavaliers Friday, Oct. 22, and then take on the Hokies Saturday, Oct. 23 in celebration of Dig Pink and breast cancer awareness. Both contests will be held in Reynolds Coliseum at 7 p.m.
The last few weeks have been tough on the Pack—the squad enters this weekend riding a four-match conference losing streak after being victorious in two of the first five ACC contests this season.
In last weekend’s action, the Wolfpack suffered a heartbreaking loss to Clemson, where the squad overcame an 0-2 deficit in the five-set match behind a career-high 19 kills by Luciana Shafer. Against Georgia Tech, the Pack fell 1-3 despite a career-high 10 kills from Elena Frac.
Virginia (9-10, 3-6 ACC) dropped back-to-back ACC contests last weekend, losing in three sets to Duke and four sets to Wake Forest. The Cavaliers are lead offensively by Simone Asque, who has scored 300 kills in the 2010 season, good for second in the league.
Virginia Tech (13-6, 4-5 ACC) enters with a three-match winning streak, having defeated Duke (3-1) and Wake Forest (3-0) last weekend. The Hokies rank second in hitting percentage in the ACC, averaging a .255 clip. The squad is led offensively by reigning ACC Player of the Week Felicia Willoughby, who is tops in the league in hitting percentage (.404).
On Friday, the match will be featured as a Domino’s student appreciation night, where the first 200 students will receive free food, in addition to other prizes. Also, the match versus Virginia will be broadcast via live video feed on GoPack.com, as well as Gametracker.
Saturday’s matchup with Virginia Tech is the annual Dig Pink match, a breast cancer awareness and fundraising event. There will be pink NC State wristbands available to the first 500 fans, as well as pink pom-poms.
