W. Tennis Takes Down East Carolina 6-1

Raleigh, N.C. - In what was the opening match of the spring season, the NC State women's tennis team got off to a strong start, beating East Carolina, 6-1.
The Wolfpack earned the first point of the day in doubles, winning two of the three matches. Sandhya Nagaraj and Daria Petrovic teamed up at the No. 1 slot to beat Jessica Cook and Audrey LePottier, 8-4. The duo of Tana Illova and Diana Mortlock defeated Natalie Collins and Yilian Zhang, 8-4. With the point already awarded, Chloe Smith and Ashley Miller lost, 7-6 (1), to Petra Vogel and Brooke Walter.
In singles, No. 45 Nagaraj easily defeated her opponent, LePottier, 6-0, 6-1. Lenka Hojckova won 6-1, 6-3, over Cook. Illova had a solid day, winning 6-4, 6-4, against Vogel to clinch the win for the Pack.
Petrovic beat Collins, 6-1, 6-4. Smith continued her solid play from the fall with a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Zhanng. Miller lost in a tiebreaker to Walter, 3-6, 6-1, (10-7).
"With the first match, it's just nice to see where everyone is at," said head coach Hans Olsen. "We had some challenges but dug deep. We performed well today."
NC State's match tomorrow against Winthrop has been postponed. The Pack's next match will take place on Friday, February 5 at 4:00 p.m. against Depaul.
