Softball Picked Fifth by ACC Coaches

RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State softball was picked fifth in the annual ACC preseason poll, as released by the conference office on Wednesday, Jan. 27. The Wolfpack, which returns 17 letterwinners from a year ago and adds five newcomers, picked up 26 total points.

“We are looking forward to getting the season under way and getting back on the field,” said head coach Lisa Navas. “We are excited about our team and anxious to shake things up in the conference.”

Reining ACC Champion Georgia Tech picked up four first-place votes, but will share the preseason No. 1 spot with Florida State. Both teams picked up 45 points. North Carolina took third with one first-place vote and 39 total points, while Virginia Tech placed fourth with one point more than the Wolfpack. Maryland, Virginia and Boston College round out sixth through eighth.

NC State softball will begin the 2010 season Feb. 12-14 at the FIU Combat Classic in Miami, Fla.
