RALEIGH, N.C. — The NC State baseball team will host the 2010 First Pitch Banquet in conjunction with the Rally Club on Saturday, February 13 at the Raleigh Marriott City Center.
This year’s program will feature the induction of three former Wolfpackers into the NC State Baseball Hall of Fame. Doors are set to open at 7 p.m. with the program and dinner beginning shortly thereafter. Tickets for this special night can be purchased for $75 by filling out the attached registration form. Sponsor tables are also available for $750.
Please note that ticket sales for the banquet will be cut off after February 5, and there will be no tickets sold at the door.
Dan Plesac, Doug Strange and Steve Martin will highlight the banquet to kickoff the 2010 season and be the second class inducted to the NC State Baseball Hall of Fame, joining 2008-09 inductees Sam Esposito, Mike Caldwell and Chris Cammack.
Plesac played for the Pack from 1981-1983, then went on to spend 18 years in the major leagues, appearing in more than 1,000 games. He is currently an analyst on the MLB Network.
Strange played for NC State from 1983-85 and was named first-team All-ACC in 1984 and 1985. He was taken by the Detroit Tigers in the seventh round of the 1985 MLB draft and went on to play 10 seasons in the major leagues. He currently serves as a special assistant to the general manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Martin was a member of the 1968 College World Series team, earning All-ACC and All-America honors that year.
This year the Wolfpack baseball team will play an alumni game prior to and in conjunction with the banquet. The game will feature the 2010 Wolfpack team squaring off against your favorite Pack players from the past. The alumni game is set to begin at 1 p.m. on February 13 at Doak Field at Dail Park.
The First Pitch Banquet is the main fundraising event for the NC State Baseball Rally Club. The funds from past banquets have gone toward some tremendous improvements around Doak Field at Dail Park including the creation of the new NC State Baseball Hall of Fame area on the concourse in 2009. Additionally, funds from the banquet have been used to make upgrades to the locker room and for improved pre/postgame meals for the Wolfpack team. On your first trip to the ballpark this year you will be impressed by the new look the stadium has taken on. Thanks to the support of the Rally Club, Doak Field at Dail Park now features a large graphic banner along the office tower and an impressive wind screen display along the right-field parking area.
Please see the attached forms for more information on registering for the 2010 banquet. If you have any additional questions please contact Dana Huether in the NC State baseball office at dana_huether@ncsu.edu.
